Finding out about the breed

It is most important when buying a puppy that you find out as much as possible about the breed you are interested in, and purchase a puppy from an established and reputable breeder. Breed clubs and vets can often offer help and direct you.

Care must be taken when searching the internet and with adverts placed in newspapers etc. Always see the puppy in the kennel environment before you buy.

The puppy should be lively, bright and clean, with no smell. A good breeder will be happy to show you the whole litter, have the puppies health checked with their own vet before they go home with you, possibly have the first or all of the puppy's initial injections, provide you with the Kennel Club registration certificate and details of worming and a bill of sales.
